I work better without Nicotine.
I started smoking at the age of 15 and this year, I am 37. After 22 years of smoking, I have not given up the habit yet. Honestly speaking, to me at least, the habit of lighting up a cigarette plays an important role in my life and my identity. I have been consistently pairing up smoking with different occasions of my life to the point of no return.
- I smoke when I’m happy
- I smoke when I’m sad
- I smoke when I feel alone
- I smoke and drink tea after my meals
- I smoke when I am having phone calls
- I smoke before I go to bed
- I smoke to reward myself after acquiring a project
- I smoke when I am with my friends
And, the list goes on. As you can see, everything that I do or feel is tied to smoking. Therefore, it is challenging for me to quit that habit once and for all.
I picked up Allen Carr’s book ‘Easy Way To Quit Smoking’ recently and it opened up my eyes to what smoking does to me in a general way — a way that I am not able to see as a smoker. One of the main points I picked up from this book is that we don’t need nicotine to work or enjoy life.
